Project Update: 73 220d

I am working on this car to at least get her moving again. Thanks to everyone who sent diagrams and tips.

After a new battery was put in, the motor runs fine now. I fixed the linkages to and from the go pedal (thank you WD40!!). The brake lines were swollen shut and one caliper was bad.

I'll be finishing up the brakes this weekend. Hopefully, she will be moving on her own soon.

Wish me luck! I'll probably capture the moment and put it on YouTube or something.

The only bad thing: There is so much rust that it probably only has a couple of years of life left unless the rust issue is addressed. I know floor pan replacements are available but time and money and skill constraints prevent me doing that. The motor seems perfect though. What a shame.

I have fixed a lot of old beaters with sheet aluminum, roofing cement and short sheet metal screws or pop rivits. It takes some time but welding in the real stuff is very very difficult and will probably just rust again soon anyway!

Seal it up so the rain doesn't come in, make sure your seat and seat belt anchors are strong and simply drive it and enjoy!
