Well . . .I just bought Beru's, but I have no long term test for them, wondering if there might be some other problem to, did you ream before putting them in, is it possible that the relay is staying on too long, or stuck on?

They could be junk, or made on a Monday morning . . .

From what I have read on this Forum Beru are best but expensive.

Bosch is next best and cost almost 1/2 as much as Beru Glow Plugs and are more easily available and you can shop around for them.
This makes the Bosch Glow Plugs the best by for the money.

No other companies Glow Plugs are considered good.

If you want your Glow Plugs to have a long life be sure to ream or otherwise clean out the Carbon from the Glow Plug Holes. See the DIY Links for instructions.

I have installed Monark GPs in the past, two out of five went bad in the first week,
Replaced all five with bosch GPs a year ago, all are still functioning good.

reamed the gp holes did a continuity c/k of the wires every thing in spec .
did replace the relay (Monark PN#090290012) and glow plugs (monark pn#090506039)at the same time . the relay comes on for 30 sec. then when the motor starts they come back on for 3 min then off like advertised for the new up grade relay .
just went out side and put the bosch plugs back in every thing seams to be good for now .
tested the monark plugs with a battery jump box
2 of the plugs were just dead
and 2 were shorted so that the base (were the threads are )heated up and
not the electrode and the plastic isolators were melted
and 1 was good
Just think that they are junk gp
time to see if
Mercedes source will make good on this or if I'm SOL
Thanks for the replies so far
where to buy the beru gp?

I'm still using the originals but I think one has now gone bad based on recent rough idle when first started.
I don't see a name on them. Do you need to pull one to identify?
I'd like the same quality but that's unlikely.

Bosch or Beru, Monark gp's are very bad even worse than autolite and those are a nightmare, so are champions.

I will NOT install any other brands.........

Autolite, Champions, etc, etc, (personal experience) generally last 30 - 90 days on my 300SD.

Have a great day

I guess it is true confession time.

When I first bought my Mercedes I kept looking trough ebay for good deals on stuff I knew I would need some day. I also was not a member of this forum at that time.

During this period I purchased both Autolite and Monark Glow Plugs.

I did not have a Glow Plug Reamer at the time and I insatlled the Autolites.
3 months later I got a Glow Plug Reamer and pulled the Autolites out to Ream the Glow Plug Holes. I had difficulty pulling 2 of the Autolite Glow Plugs out; it turned out those 2 had the tips swollen.

I replaced them with the Monark Glow Plugs and in way over a year I have had no Glow Plug failures. While I do use the Glow plugs when I start it is not Cold here in S. CA.

Since then when they were on sale I bought some Bosch Glow Plugs for use later (made in France).

For a long time I used Champion Glow Plugs in the Volvo with no abnormal failure rate or other problems.
I bought some NKG Glow Plugs on ebay for later use in the Volvo.
They also make Glow Plugs for Mercedes but no one has posted about using any.

So far the Monark GPs are OK. I need to use them up. I do not mind if the fail as long as I can pull them out in a normal manner.
But, the Autolites have the potential to damage your Engine. And, I have see pics on the forum where the tips look like they had exploded.

At the top of the page click on "Buy Parts" Fast lane sells the Beru glow plugs, $17.?? The Bosch were $14.??

If you buy more than $100 shipping is FREE! There must be something else you need . . . filters . . .

That looks like a no-brainer. For the extra $15 (3x5), why would you not go for the best?

I'm no wondering if my 26 year old originals are still working. Maybe the car starts because of good compression and moderate temperatures.

I just looked, the glow plug markings are hidden by the recess in which they mount. I'd have to pull one to check. I'll wait till cold weather and see if it still starts.
