Looked at a rough '87 300D today, ...

$1500, but:

245,000miles
#14 head
Rust holes in the rocker-panels
Other rust bubbles
Bad bad clear-coat
Green
Pinkamino 'tex interior with bad clips on all door panels and big hole in the driver-seat bolster
Cracked bumpers
Rear windows don't work
Rattle in exhaust (clanging)
Heater blower in-op
A/C doesn't work
Anti-freeze jug (generic) in the trunk
Vacuum-hoses loose all-around the engine
Cracked headlamps
Cracked tires
Center console wood falling out
Runs on 5cylinders
And the really nice one, two of the injection hard-lines have been "replaced", looks like they used brake-line and compression fittings to splice them, a third one has a gyser from the delivery valve and the fuel line is loose enough in it to be able to move 1" side-side

The good is that it started fairly quickly, and that it has a '90-'95 vented RF fender (and it isn't rusted!).

So, how much would you offer, knowing that it will never be a nice car, just a beater? Is it worth $800? (I want the fender)

On the subject of the vented fender.

One was included with my 87. Is it worth putting on?

No, you should sell it cheap and ship it to Holland Michigan.

Honestly though, I don't think that it makes any difference performance-wise, but as a 124 fan, I like the fact that it would make other 124 people think "huh?".

First thing I noticed when driving up to look at the '87, then I checked the trunk for a "2.5 Turbo" badge thinking it was somehow a '90-'93.

I looked at one NE of Grand Rapids, asking $700, and walked (drove) away. It was actually worse (but did run on all cylinders).

I seriously need another 124 diesel.

From the description, I've seen better cars at Pick and Pull, except they were gassers. Never seen a diesel W124 at my P&P, alas.

That one certainly looks more viable, at least there's something worth a paint job. It would look good with a late black-leather interior wouldn't it (happen to have one in the shop now)?

I'm not able to travel to get a car right now, on the other hand everything that has turned up locally has been JUNK.

I was just looking for a quick diesel fix, and was considering slumming for a while to get it, suggestions noted: bad idea, will wait until I get a chance to travel south for one again.

Thanks.

Yeah, that sounds like nothing good. $200 tops. I don't know if it's worth that.
