Well got out there today and did the same thing, crank, let cool, repeat. Also in there I bled the injectors at the connections and they all bled. Each time I would have a bout of turning oer it would sputter a little more till it would run if I gave it a little fuel but like absolute crap, I just kept my foot in it for a while and when I backed off it sat and idled. Shut it off and she started right up. I took her for a nice spirited drive and it felt good. Thanks for the help guys! So it seems like the fuel system definately wasnt air free even though I took all precautions, so I thought. Funny, I've changed those filters out before with no problems.

SO as not to start a new thread, hopefully someone here has some input. In the laundry list of things I did, I replaced the Front wheel bearings. Read up on the touchy procedure and did it by hand (not dial indicator) One wheel hums just slightly. SO does Humming always mean too tight or does it just mean out of adjustment either way?

I am having the same problem as the OP on this thread. I have cracked open the hard lines @ the injectors, cranked, and got plenty of fuel on 4 and 5. Nothing on 1,2, or 3. I cranked for a while too.

Note - the reason I changed my filters was because I was having very brief, intermittent power losses on the highway. Not even every day. I figured a filter might be getting clogged. Could my problem really be a more serious air leak somewhere? What do I do now?

Thanks in advance,

Charlie

After sifting through even more old posts, I came across threads regarding the hand primer pump developing leaks. Could this be the cause of my problem? If so, do dealers still carry this item or am I going to have to mail order it?

thanks,

Charlie

VW,
Get onto Phil at fastlane up the top of the page (buy parts). You need an updated primer pump.

OK, I'll report back in the middle of the week when I have it on.

OK, I found a new primer pump here in town today...put it on this evening. I primed everything, and still had to crank for a while. I put a shot of WD-40 in the air intake for good measure. She finally started up with lots of smoke, but things soon smoothed out.

Thanks to all who posted to this thread with advice to me or the original poster.
