w123: Anyone Updated Sunvisor Panel and Dome Lights?
has anyone here ever updated the sunvisor panel which has the cutout for the sunvisor clips and front dome light from the old version to the new one?
my goal would mainly be to have the updated style sunvisors to which i could run power to and get lighted mirrors, and also to have the newer kind of dome light, with the separate map light. does anyone know--are the two headliner panels (older and newer) the same in width? i think the rest would be quite simply a matter of splicing the power that goes to the existing dome light into three directions, one for the two powered sunvisor clips, and one to the new dome light switch. thoughts? pic of updated one: http://i.ebayimg.com/17/!BZpE18gBWk~...Uq1v!~~_12.JPG |
The dome light with map light fits in the old panel too, it's the same size as the plain dome light. Both use the same plugs so no rewiring is needed. I have one of the new dome lights with map light for sale -- $20 including free surface shipping in the lower 48 US states.
I suspect that the newer-style panel will fit in place of your old one with no modifications -- but I have never seen it done, that's just my personal opinion. Jeremy Jeremy |
i think what you mean is that the model with the map light also came without it and is the same size. i'm wanting to update from the 77-81 style dome light to the 82-85 (maybe 84-85, not quite sure)

Dome lights
Ah, I wasn't aware of the earlier, smaller size. :o The plain dome light that came in my '85 300D-T (W123, OM617) is larger than yours and is directly replaceable with the map light version. It's really nice to have an advanced factory part to replace a lesser factory part with no modifications required. Improves the car but only those in the know realize that it's not original. ;) And since no cutting is required, it's also reversible. Reversible is always good, you might change your mind or sell the car to a new owner who wants it box-stock. :D

I will attempt to install a dome/map light soon in my dad's 83 300D turbo but how can I most effectively repair the trim pictured in my attachment. Any help?
