Valve job

Is 3 years too long to do a valve adjustment? I was a quart low on lube oil so I open the filler cap and put a quart in. Only thing is the car was running while I did it. You would think if the valves needed adjusting the oil might shoot out like a gieser......... So, how do I know if it needs one or not?

I guess it all depends on how many miles have been driven. I believe 15k miles (OM616/617) is the valve adjustment interval. In this case, it can't hurt

I don't think you'll be able to tell if the valves need adjustment externally, other than secondary symptoms - hard starting, rough idle, etc. Gotta check them with a feeler gauge

That is not exactly how it works..... when they need a valve adjustment they do not "squirt oil".....that makes no sense at all.

They should be done every 15-20k as was mentioned....
