Where do you put your spare coins?

I drove back from Northampton today for a show that I went to last night and I had the incredible pleasure of having to pay for a toll road

I keep all of my spare coins in the clean ashtray under the radio, but it's a pain to jab my fingers past the metal. I'm thinking of cutting it out and sanding down the rough edges.

What are some of your solutions guys?

and no, EZpass is not one of them ;)

I've got a leather pouch I keep coins in. Comes in handy for drive thrus and the like. EZPass gets me through the tolls. The ashtray annoys me way too much to do anything with.

Hello. Not sure on the W123 but on the W124 you can peel out the metal and it makes a great coin holder.

Craig 10-11-2009 07:04 PM

In my pocket, I hate loose stuff in the car.

turbobenz 10-11-2009 07:07 PM

just through it all in the door pocket

Fulcrum525 10-11-2009 07:41 PM

I put only quarters in my ash tray. (Mine has very smooth edges, take a picture of yours so I know what your talking about) That keeps things simple, neat and eliminates the time needed to search for exact change.....just round to the nearest 1/4.

Any other coin denomination's get put into the tray under the keys. When I get home I take them out of the car and put them in a holder to be rolled and brought to the bank at a later time.

Coins in the car

Folks I went to a Staples, Office Max type of store and purchased a changer-- this was a number of years ago -- I'm not sure if they still have these availalbe or if they can order them or not-- Remember years ago paper boys would have these things that strapped on their belt and they could easily make change.

I know you can find these things on-line et ebay or the likes.

I agree (we now have I-Pass) change in a car is a royal pain

Hope this helps

3pointstar:)

I just got an IPass :)

Yeah I remember those "on the belt changers" you wore on your belt. They were cool.

They were real "shiney" and had a handle for each coin.

I'd love one of them.

Craig 10-11-2009 08:23 PM

I just bring my change home and it disappears, my kids think it's free spending money.

babymog 10-11-2009 08:24 PM

My wife does that with the green stuff I bring home.
I call it her "leather ATM".

I keep a 35mm film can (remember film? it was used in cameras?) full of quarters in the glove box. Comes in handy for parking meters and such.

LOL, I currently have about eight rolls of film with me; it's still around. I seem to remember film canisters being used to hold all kinds of interesting stuff. ;)

chasinthesun 10-11-2009 08:40 PM

Loose change finds its way all over my vehicle, when I clean out the car is the only time I rediscover it,usually pays for the vacuuming and a cool drink afterwards.

pawoSD 10-11-2009 08:45 PM

Michigan doesn't have any toll roads at all. :D

In my W126 I keep coins in the coin tray......in the W124 we don't have any coins. :D

so you admit that you've used interesting stuff?

very interesting. is this why you can't remember the 70's? eh, craig?

Sev 10-11-2009 08:48 PM

yeah, when i was cleaning out my '82 300DT Turbo Diesel after I first bought it, i recovered like $5 in coins under the carpets and rear seats

now i can afford a nickel bag or some other interesting stuff. if anyone has any leads let me know

Craig 10-11-2009 08:58 PM

Not me, I spent all my free time in church. <looks around for lightning bolts>

i dunno about that, but if you rack up any more miles on your car, you're going to need to pray that it doesn't break down

It's OK, all the moving parts have been replaced at least once (only a slight exaggeration).

I have the same thing actually. Instead of various coins, it's primarily for quarters or dollar coins (for the car wash).

bustedbenz 10-11-2009 09:41 PM

The w126 I drive 99 trips out of 100 has a separate tray between the gearstick and the ashtray that's perfect for coins, etc. I haven't driven the 240 in so long I can't remember exactly what the center stack looks like but I'll assume there isn't one.

In that car, I'd put one of those miniature bread pans (Like you use to give bread or cake away at Christmas or something; they're about 3.5" tall and almost perfectly the width of the center console below the armrest) in the center tray under the armrest and put coins, breath mints, cell phones, random bolts that fall out of the car (my dash kick panels tend to fall off once in a while if I don't remember to put them back every time they fall out), hand cleaner, whatever else you usually would put in the ash tray in the bread pan instead.

Lacking one of those there's any number of common household plastic containers with a wide base that you could stick in there.

JEBalles 10-11-2009 10:08 PM

I put 'em in that tray behind the shifter, anytime I have change, just throw it in there. Then I can get a Cumby's chill zone.

fruitcakesa 10-11-2009 10:11 PM

Loose in the glovebox, no tolls here so no rush to get em out.

okyoureabeast 10-11-2009 11:05 PM

EZpass isn't a suggestions :P

I only started dealing with this tolls in NY. Never have I had to deal with them in PA!

I'm going to clip the metal out. I miss having a coin holder.

Cr from Texas 10-11-2009 11:12 PM

My loose dimes seem to find their way into the seat tracks. Just the right size to fall in and jam the height adjuster.

Exactly the same thing as Jeremy. With film being phased out and old age setting in I have old pill bottles in some. Remember to remove that label.....;)

I have a Christmas tin. My grandmother uses it as a stocking stuffer every year.

Take a picture of it first and post it here before you cut anything.

H-townbenzoboy 10-12-2009 01:33 AM

I keep my coins in my pocket. We have toll roads, but I have one of these...

http://www.txtag.org/EN/images/txtag_card.gif

When I was registering my TxTag, I gave the year and model and the guy on the line asked "is that that wonderful pea green color?" I guess this came to mind whenever the guy thought of W123s.

Something like an Altoids tin ought to fit in the console pretty neatly. Maybe a piece of tool box liner in it to reduce rattling.
