While changing the rear spring pads on my W201 '93 190E/D over the weekend, I noticed that the bushing that goes through the rear "knuckle" at the control arm location is bad. This is the bushing that presses into the lower pivot point on the rear "knuckle", and attaches to the outer pivot location of the rear lower control arm. The other bushings all look good.

My question is - is it possible to R & R this bushing with the knuckle still on the car? I can envision a homemade puller, consisting of some all-thread, a couple of nuts, and a couple of sockets, or a machined "driver" to remove this bushing. For obvious reasons, I would prefer not to remove the entire knuckle from the car.

Any help/advice is appreciated.

There is a factory tool, check the tool rental pages on this site.

I tried manufacturing my own tools for this, using a fine-thread grade-8 bolt and some sockets, and was not successful (gave up), removed the wheel carrier to have it pressed out and the wheel bearing replaced at the same time. It can be done on the car though, if you have the correct tool or the inginuity to create one.

Lower wheel carrier bushing I believe is the part you're looking for, likely the same 124 & 201.
