Think before you order from ********

I know I know...I should have bought from Phil.

I bought brake lines and brake shoes from ******** at unbelievable prices. $14 for pads, $8 each for the lines. Plus shipping....$22!

Shipping was high because the parts came from 3 different places. No big deal I thought, the whole thing was still cheap even with the high shipping.

The parts came and only the front brake lines fit. Everything else was WRONG.

So I call to complain. They explained that I am responsible for sending them back to each of the three places!

In the end, I would be spending more to send them back than what I was potentially getting back.

I told the woman that I would just keep the parts as a reminder of what NOT to do in the future. Lesson learned. bah!!

I had a problem with a ******** part once. They immediately emailed me a prepaid return shipping tag and refunded the price for the part and the original shipping cost.

Another time, a part was missing from a set. ******** immediately shipped a replacement for the entire set and told me to keep the original set.

I got a windshield seal from them that didn't fit. Had to fight for a week to get a refund. Ended up using the old seal, since it was still good. Windshield was broken, seal was good. Never again.

I bought upper and lower Radiator hoses, Over Flow Tank Hose, Motor & Transmission mounts and a bunch a transmission Filters from Rock. All the ones I have used fit OK.
That was over 1 year ago.
Unfortunately management at those places change and you never know how helpful a person on the phone will be. So far I have not had to speak with any of the places where I ordered parts.
I have not oreded with them as there shipping is a price killer. If you want to order a lot of 1 item like I did with the Transmission filters that will be shipped from the same place you might get a break on the shipping when the item cost and the shipping are added and devided as cost per item.

never had a problem with ********. the last item i purchased was a clutch kit for my 190e 2.3-16v getrag transmission. they were $80 cheaper than anyone else in the world. can't beat their prices, and if they make an occasional mistake, apparently they quickly correct it. i wouldn't question their customer service or quality based on one transaction

When I was pretty much told I don't know what I'm talking about and didn't order the right part, (not that it's hard to tell when the seal doesn't fit), I tend to form a negative opinion. If I make a mistake, I'll own up to it. In my experience, them not so much.

Oh, Marty, you are correct in that nobody's perfect. However, I have never had a problem with Phil berating me, or any other problem with Phil for that matter. As a consumer, I have the power to shop where people appreciate the business.

I also have had overall good experiences with ******** and found their prices unbeatable and sometimes they are the only source for some items. I also bought a clutch kit from them and their price was substantially less than anyone else and I recently bought a window regulator and door seal for my wagon from them and they both fit perfectly.

Even Phil has made mistakes on my orders (more than one) so nobody's perfect. Both ******** and Phil handle returns in a similar manner.

I've also had good experiences with ******** AZ.

I like rock auto, spent over $200 on parts that would have been $500.
Now for stuff I don't want to fix again Starters,Alternators,Bake parts, biodiesel rated fuel lines,I use Napa. They are better than OEM.Germany has been doing like all countries outsourcing for cheap labor, and high profitts.

I have bought from Phil, and I have bought from Rock Auto.

I have been happy with everything from both so far.

I did have ******** send the wrong brake pedal pad (this is for my Ford truck) and it was a bit of a hassle but eventually the refunded my $3. From what I remember, it took a handful of emails over the course of a couple of weeks to get them to respond and refund my money.

Mainly their shipping is just a killer, so ordering a half-dozen odd parts leads to $20 in shipping charges.

The shipping charges are not kept secret. If the bottom line doesn't suit you, don't hit the "submit" button. It doesn't seem to me that they are marking up the shipping costs. Their shipping charges are much more reasonable than many outfits.

I've never bought from them before....almost did once for some random thing, but found a better deal elsewhere.

I generally shop where I get the best price and shipping cost.....

I mostly just get frustrated when the parts ship from so many different locations, driving up the cost. I'll have an order put together with a reasonable shipping cost, and then I'll add some trivial but essential part that costs $0.79 and it ends up adding $7 to the shipping total because it ships from a different warehouse. In that case I know that it won't cost them an extra $7 shipping to send me this 79 cent item that weighs less than an ounce.

With that said, I do like how the shipping is updated as you add items to the cart, unlike some sites that won't give you shipping costs until the very end of the ordering process.

X2.

I call in an order earlier enough, and I get it the next day around 10 - 11am. sometimes a second part of the order comes in the afternoon by another carrier.

Friday is another matter, then I don`t get the order until monday.

Our local NAPA dealer is bull headed and thinks he knows more than I do when it comes to MB parts, and the guys behind the counter are just a bunch of young guys that have no idea. the DUH factor.

Buy from Phll, he know`s MB parts well, and I always get what Iam asking for. or he will get back to me when looking for part.

Buy from the part supplyers here, it supports the forum.

When I place an order, I make sure it is $100 or more for no shipping charge.

I find it bad taste to buy from another source and boast about the good deal you got, or the screwin you got, and then complain.
