Is it worth a grand?
I'm looking at a 85 300D with 255K, solid body no damage, one pencil sized rust spot, above avg. interior, starts, runs, drives well. Needs the manual priming pump replaced and about another $100 in repairs. I can get it for $1000, should I pull the trigger?

Sounds like 1000 is a steal.

Sounds good. Does everything work (AC, cruise, climate control, widows, instruments, etc.)?

AC needs a charge(HA!) power windows work except RF. Nice stereo, cruise works intermittently.

I like to buy them for less with under 200K miles.....however in VA the pickings are probably more rare. If the AC works and you NEED another MB, then and only then I would advise you to pull the trigger.

85's the BEST w123 there is.
For a 1000$ definitely bite the bullet. You get all of the goodies of a 2.88 dif and a better higher end stall speed. If worse comes to worse you can transplant that awesome transmission into a better working car.

Yep, I would easily spend your $1000 on this car. An '85 definitely has it's positive bullet points. If you can deal with that bit of rust, why not.....

Sounds like a good deal! $1000 for a decent running and driving car.......even with a few TLC items, you can't really go wrong! Please let us know how it goes and post up pics if you get it!

I would go for it. The biggest concern is the AC, plan on spending the usual $1-2000 if you plan on reparing it.

Quick answer 1; it doesn't mater because everything needs to work perfectly.
Quick answer 2; yes, we do have summer here, usually 80s and dry during the day. Long answer; within the last year my car has been all over the country (about 50k miles) including several weeks in GA, TX and AZ during the summer, try that without AC. Some people actually leave home. |

I've been looking a while. This seems to be the best option so far. The car looks and drives good.

I was going to say, Craig's cars must work perfectly. He wouldn't have it any other way. I was like that with my 82, and am trying to keep it that way with my 85 Federal.

LOL, it's currently in the shop having a bunch of nits fixed. Nothing major, but there's always something that needs attention. I need to get it ready for the next 500k miles.

For the price, I wouldn't hesitate. You could always resell it anyway.
