That's correct - I learned that. I also learned that when buyiung my last MB brand new - there was a 10 day delay on when they said it would be ready to pick up. In that time the MB dealer put 75 miles or so on it. I wasn't happy about that.

ALL cars if you look pass the cosmetic and is willing to put some TLC into it. I like cars with bad windows, bad A/C, bad electrics, dents, missing trims, bad paint, crushed fenders, doors etc. As long as the drive train is good and body is straight then I am interested. Most panels can be obtained from a JY and with the same color code if you are lucky. I try to split my w/e on golf and fixing old MBZ. You can make a DD driver out of a sub $2K car easy, it may not win a beauty contest but it will take you from A to B reliably.:)

All of it, very true

I'm currently looking for another antique daily driver late '60s - early '70s Honda two-cylinder motorcycle. I'll pay somewhere under $750.00 for it, but would prefer to spend no more than $500.00 for it, tops.

My last daily driver collector's Honda vintage MC cost me $2,450.00 - sold it a year later for $2,980.00. Which is the icing on the cake - riding it a year or more and making money on the deal.

Life is good isn't it? :D

I am the same way; I'd rather pay in cash but due to the idea that to get 'credit' you have to borrow I tend to buy something on credit, the literally proceed to go home and send the money from my bank account to the card.

Money comes easily and frequently! ;)

An odd one of the bunch is my friend Zach, who I sold Rotchester to. It was a car I paid $500 for, but it came with 20k+ worth of service records. I changed the oil, fuel filters, and had some good used tires installed. It had a used brake caliper put on and a brake bleed shortly before it made its cross country trip to California, where Zach relocated.

In 6 months and 7000 miles, a light bulb burnt out, and his primary filter clogged up again. Other than 1 oil change, that is all it needed. He got his money's worth and then some, even if it deciedes to blow up tomorrow.

One ugly bugger though.

I agree with you to a certain extend but it is not something I can keep.

I wrote a check out 1.5 years ago for my home!

Do the same for a car . . . ah well . . . actually take I cash with me!:D

I agree if I have to borrow to get something, whether home, car, gun, groceries . . . I don't need it, I will not go into debt!

I wish the rest of our nation thought like that!

Bankruptcy is not an option, it is called stealing!

Thats what it takes when you travel your own road and it definitely is what you need to do to live securely and peaceably in Vermont.

I usually use whichever car is the most reliable. So my "daily driver" used to be my Lexus, and now it's my Camry. My old Chrysler is also very reliable and that's what I take if I'm taking my dog along with me. So I guess my answer is anywhere between $1200 and $30,000 ish.

I'm hoping my 300D will make a nice daily driver when it's fixed. I expect to have about $1800 to $2000 invested. (But I have not run these figures past the Congressional Budget office, so they could easily double or triple.:joker:)

My point is that there is not a lot things that could appreciate in value. Cars is definitely NOT one of them. Home, may be, but not ones that were bought in the last 4 years.

I paid $1500.00 for my 300D 2 1/2 years ago. After joining this forum I learned I had overpaid by about $800.00 :o. However, since then I have invested about $1500.00 in parts and labor(not including the 500 hours of my time :D. The car has NEVER let me down. I admit it has issues, and will not win any prizes for appearance but it looks nice enough for me to receive compliments from people on a fairly regular basis. Bottom line, even after overpaying on the initial purchase the car has cost me about $100.00 a month not including fuel and oil changes and has been amazingly reliable. I drive this car every day because it is my only car. Maybe I'm lucky. But if this one ever dies I am going to buy another one.
