Big MB Diesel!

This week I was on vacation at the covered bridge festival in Indiana.

We went to a Military Museum and looked at some Tanks, Halftracks and other military artifacts. He had a German Jet engine from the ME 262, a Japanese tank and several more common items.

I think I was his only visitor all day, he let me check out the storage units to see their items that are not on display, including the only known 1917 steam engined Renault ambulance!

I took a picture of a Mercedes Tank engine that has yet to be restored.
Next pic is of the Renault ambulance
3rd is of the steam engine on board
The fourth is of a 16 inch hell from an Iowa class Battleship! It is next to me, I am 6 foot 2.

A WW2 submarine Torpedo
A WW2 landing craft that participated on D Day

Cummings Diesels

We also visited the Cummings headquarters in Columbus, IN. They have a display area at their offices.

A one of a kind Auburn 6 cylinder diesel made of Aluminum! This one achieved 34 miles per Gallon! Lack of interest made it one of a kind.

The indy car is a 1952 Diesel racer.

Enjoy!

I have always been fascinated by steam cars. The concept of a steam ambulance is intriguing. I would think that you would have to keep the boiler fired all the time in case of an emergency. I don't know how long they took to warm up, but I'd hate to be sitting somewhere having a heart attack and waiting for the water to boil in the steam ambulance so they could come and pick me up.

I don't remember the name but Jay Leno has a steam car too.

The idea of a steam car intrigues me.

He has (a couple) stanley steamers. In fact he holds the highest speeding ticket in the oldest car record for the USA. 78mph in a 65 in a 1914 Stanley Steamer.
