Blower Motor Replacement Question

I understand that blower motors begin to squeak, then work intermittently, then die. This happened on my 92...replaced blower at 150K miles.

On my 91, blower has begun to squeak pretty consistently (though not always) but always works.

I notice that I am able to purchase a Bosch blower motor without fan for less than $100. Does this mean I can take the fans from the old blower and put them on the new motor and thereby save some money? Can I assume that the fans will definitely fit the Bosch motor?

I wouldn't be the one doing the work....but this seems like an economical route to go.

Thanks.

When the blower on my 87 124 began to squeak I got a drop of oil on the bushing and that was 15K+ ago. If you can get to it, even with a long tube or such, it would be the cheapest way to go by far.

Did the same thing with the little air sampling fan by the glovebox. It started to squeal and a drop of oil has quieted it down for the last two years.

The only thing about just buying the motor and using your fans is that I believe they need to be balanced together and that can be a pain. Someone may correct me on this though.

When my blower motor went I took it out. It was pretty easy. It is located under the dash on the passanger side. You only need a few screws to take it out. Then i took the magnetic brushed and cleaned them. They did not have much left on them, but i only cleaned them and it has been good for over a year now.

the op's got a '91 w124--considerably more complicated to r&r the blower on that chassis.

yeah, the oil works to keep it quieted down, and due to the dual cages, you will need to have them balanced out. better to buy a good working used one than a brand new motor without cages
