Jammed Seatbelts

I'm putting the interior from Stella ('81 TD) in to my new yet-to-be-named wagon ('81 TD) including the 3rd row seat. I pulled the seatbelts from Stella and bolted them in the new wagon.

Here's the problem: The mechanism won't allow the belts to unroll for fastening. As soon as I pull on the belt, the mechanism locks up. I've tried wiggling, tugging, cursing etc.. Tell me there's a trick - they worked fine before I removed them.

Thanks in advance!

I just put new belts in the backseat of my SD. I had the same problem. I figured there was some locking mechanism. Sure enough there was. There is a little tab on the frame that goes into a slot in the seat belt holster backside. Once you tighten it down all the way it should work. Mine did.

Thumbs up

Before you installed the recoil unit, were you able to pull the belt out while holding it in your hand?

I'll take the panels off again and make sure they are tight. I got the tabs in the holes but I wonder if it has to be pushed up tight in order to work.

Thanks for the direction Graplr!

They were able to recoil before I mounted them but I could not pull the belt out. Perhaps they need to be wound up all the way first? Mine were, I don't know if this makes any difference or not (it doesn't seem like it should but seeming like usually doesn't get me too far. )

It did indeed have to be tight. It wasn't until the bolt was completely tightened down and the tab seated properly that I was able to pull the belt out. Both sides did the same thing so I'm pretty confident it has to do with that tab/slot in the back.

Thanks Graplr - I'll re-visit those bolts.
