Our cat knows 617's

We park on the street in front of the house. Lots of cars come and go during the day. When a 617 pulls up outside the cat knows. It immediately jumps up and goes to the window or door expecting the arrival of one of us. Gas engine wont cause it. A Cummins diesel provokes no reaction. It only has ears for MB's.

That's funny. We have 2 outside cats and both of them run out when the MB pulls up or the Dodge (cummins).

Pull up in the yard in a gas car and they stay hidden.:D

Are you running WVO from a cat food processing plant? It is the aroma. :D

Pavlov would be so proud

Before our dogs lost their hearing, they would bark whenever one of us drove up in the MBZs.

One night we were watching Spy Games which has a lot of scenes with old Mercedes diesels. Every time that distinct klatta-klatta would come out of the speakers on TV, one of the dogs would go off.:D

Our cat knew our 2 Diesels, the MB and the Datsun. my wife said when I would come home from work, he would get excited when he heard the truck, and would be at the door or sitting on the back of the couch looking out.

when we came home and didn`t get out of the car right away, he would come out the back window and down his ramp, and sit by the door and cry. "Hey let me in"

even though my wife fed him and was around her more, he seemed to like me more for some reason.

I sure miss that cat, lost him a yr ago July, had him for 15 yrs.
He was my little buddy.

Our cat might know our car, but she doesn't seem to care. OTOH, the dogs seem to respond to all are vehicles.

Maybe you know something about cats that Rupert Sheldrake doesn't :D

kerry 10-24-2009 12:56 AM

Sheldrake certainly has some interesting and unusual ideas. Animals do seem to know some things pretty confidently in ways that are quite dissimilar to how humans usually know.
On the other hand, they also don't seem to aware of some things like their own potential deaths. I can remember one of my very old cats on the night of her demise, I went into the room where she lay on a blanket, barely alive. She looked up at me with an expression, which if on a human, I would have interpreted as "What the hell is going on, I don't understand it."

I know the look. They think you can help...to them you are a god.

you know what's weird? i always recognized these cars when i was a kid based on the sound. i would always tell my dad that a mercedes was coming when i heard it (didn't know what diesel was at that time).

actually the other day when i was watching my dodgers at togo's restaurant, the refrigerator turned on and made a diesel engine sound--immediately thought of my 300dT

just one simple question: does your sasquatch recognize your 190e--either by shape, color or by sound?

if so ima get myself one of those asap!

JimmyL 10-24-2009 01:53 AM

Our dog barks when ANY car or truck pulls down the driveway, except for the diesels. (OM617's or the OM606)
Goes nuts when my wife pulls up in her FX-35. Guess she knows who feeds her......;)

Brandon_SLC 10-24-2009 01:53 AM

They aren't the best cars if you have teenagers or young adults at home and you want to sneak up on them. You will think you have very well behaved kids. Plenty of time for hiding the evidence.

My Camry usually pulls into the garage on electric power, thereby giving me the element of surprise.

pawoSD 10-24-2009 02:40 AM

My dog gets excited when I pull in outside and will go wait by the door for me to come in. Only for the 617 though, the gasser is too quiet for him to hear through the wall/window. :D
