I can see having a 55 gal tank in the garage, but schlepping a single full barrel of fuel around seems iffy.
If 5x7 is a pain due to the frequency and hassle factor, why not try for 4 or 5 x 15? You're doubling capacity for the same work but keeping flexibility. None of these are related to your question..
I rolled a full metal drum of WVO up 2 pieces of wood(ramp) in to the back of my 85 golf once. I had one other person to help me. I had to pump the wvo out of the drum to move it once I got home. I live in central Indiana.. this is the place corn and soy beans are grown. I have never been able to find B100 in this state. Very very sad.

I do have something to add..
try CL for old boats gas tanks. They tend to be flat and boxy... you could find a big one and be good to go.

I haven`t seen anyone mention using a trailer. mount a tote of 2 t0 300 gal. then fill it to what ever amount you need. park the trailer, and then pump out of it as needed.
Iam not sure I want a 55gal barrel in side my TD. there is the possibility of spillage and all that mess. also getting into an accident and suddenly having a 400lb missle coming towards you. I have moved 55 gal drums filled with oil at work. they are are heavy and awkward even with the proper equipment. Charlie

I'd just go with four 15 gallon drums.
Or get a Ford Excursion, you can put a drum standing up in the back of one of those. |

I would just strap it to my flat utility trailer....but would probably go for 2 drums at that point. It would be nearly the max weight for the trailer (around 1100lbs capacity.)

$2.12/gal here from Karbowski Oil. I already have drums in my garage - one is being used for waste oil from oil changes (waste oil heater).

I put a removable, pivoting 1/2 ton crane and a barrel lifting clamp in my Cummins Dodge and use it to move methanol drums and other stuff in biodiesel production.

Seems like the load (est 400 lbs + or -) plus my weight is ok....
85 300TD load carrying abilities I am trying to minimize my costs, so buying a triler or a truck is not going to happen. Also, don't want to spend the beer $$ to convince my truck-enhanced friends to help (the oil co. is only opne during the day on Tues/Thurs, so it is an inconveinient time to go for working people) @Yak - yes, Dave the barrel man is my drum source May try 2 35 gallon barrels, I will see what he has and how much they are. Plywood with ratchet straps is also a very interesting idea..... Thanks for all the replies, I will repost when I get the barrels and let everyone know what I decide to do.

Just want to update this thread...
I ended up buying 1 55-gal drum for storage at home, and 2 30-gal barrels for transport. All barrels had sealed lids with bungholes on top. The 2 30-gal drums fit perfectly in the back wedged between the spare tire and other wall with the lip protruding just enought to get to the bunghole with the hatch open. I did nothing else on this trip to secure them, but even empty they didn't even vibrate on the ride (ahhh sls) No movement at all on the way home either. Car performed perfectly with about 65-gal total in the tank and barrels. This is a winner b/c it is very easy to move the smaller barrels around, and I could just take one if I have a light month of fuel use. The chinese diesel pump I bought at HF works great, and clears each barrel in about 3 min. No more gerry cans, and no more regular feeding the oil barons! Thanks everyone! Thanks everyone -
