Leaky Sunroof
My sunroof leaks on the driver's front corner. Just a little bit, but I was suprised when a drop or two fell on my lap. Is there a kit or a seal i can buy? And how hard is this repair?

There's a drain hole at each corner of the SR frame. Open the SR, find the drain hole at the driver-front corner, and run a coat hangar thru it a couple of inches - just enough to clear the obstruction. To check it, pour a little water at the same corner; you should see it drain just aft of the front wheel well.

Search JimmyL and sunroof, you'll find a good pictorial that I copied when I cleaned the sunroof drains on my wagon.
The rear drains exit behind the rear window trim, and a cheap Harbor Freight snake worked wonders for me, pulling out a fair amount of mud after the last rain. It also cleaned out the front drains, going at it from the top. Its raining today, so I'll have to check if it fixed my problem. 79Mercy and others have also experienced a bit of rust where the drain tube exits under the headliner. Hope this isn't your (or my) problem.

_All_ cars with sunroofs that I've ever seen require regular drain cleaning. You should be doing this at least once a year.
Personally I use weedeater line or very heavy fishing line. Pour a little water in the channel so that you can see the flow rate. |

I looked up JimmyL, but really couldn't find anything I could understand. Sorry I'm not too bright

Look in the far corners of the channels. You'll probably need a flashlight.
Sunroofs are not water tight. The purpose of the seal is to keep down the wind noise and to slow the leak rate enough for the drains to handle. The water will leak all around the opening and then drip into the channel running around the perimeter. There are drains in each corner that go into a tube that runs down the pillar and out the bottom of the car. I've read reports of the drains clogging in the bottom but by far the biggest problem I've seen is dirt clogging the drain at the top. A rarer problem is that the flexible drain hose has popped off the drain nipple. |

Found a good sunroof drain cleaner
Here's JimmyL's helpful writeup of clearing the drains on his 300TDT. I cleared my drains with a Harbor Freight snake like the one pictured, and a fair amount of crud came out. But NY has been experiencing some pretty heavy rain, and I'm still getting a drip from the front headliner area. Time to pull the front headliner and see if my rubber drain connectors around the sunroof pan are dry-rotted or if I have rust around the nipple area. As people have noted, the sunroof seals were never meant to keep water out entirely. Otherwise, there wouldn't be felt strips on the sides. Also, Jimmy's wagon isn't really a 300TDT, which has never existed as proper nomenclature. It's a 300TD.

Thanks, and I'll check this out. Its been raining here still, but today there was no dripping. When I search for parts I search under the 300TDT. TD=Turbodiesel, and T for Wagon. This isn't correct?
