Thankfully my journey through that land only equaled about 3 cars lengths

Guess what? I did it again this morning....a much shorter and straight forward drive but just as fulfilling. (Maybe I should start looking into classic rallying ) There is just something about cold sunny/semi-cloudy days and the heater keeping a nice warm 78 degrees in the car that creates a very pleasant atmosphere. A few new albums that I bought a few days ago also added to the peaceful nature of the morning.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peace_(album)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medusa_(Annie_Lennox_album)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hounds_of_Love (Kate Bush)
Also early on in the journey when I was in range I also tuned into a station that I discovered last week as well, AM 1290 www.beethoven.com

Basically it was a straight run through the back roads of Harwinton to Litchfields main artery, route 202. I stopped at what is probably my number 1 favorite independent coffee shop for some refreshments. I was sitting in my car reading the local newspaper when an old Porsche pulled up next to me. Interestingly it had a decal on the side that said "gullwingsearch.com/" with the picture of a 300SL....I thought it was a bit odd being on the side of a Porsche so I talked to the owner for a few minutes about what it was. Its an interesting site that deals in vintage race cars, there are a few Mercedes mixed in on the site so check it out sometime

I was also happy to see under the bonnet of said Porsche.

I had never seen a boxer engine in person before so it was interesting to see how it was engineered. I also got a kick out of its single centrally located reverse light After that I veered off into a pleasant drive around a picturesque local lake and a few hill climbs/cruises. After that I rounded out the journey with a little S-Class highway cruising . The SDL can take the backroad turns extremely well but I still yearn for a 560SEC on those twisty bits.

So why do I do this? After having my world shaken and torn apart I feel a need to find myself and gain some motivation to go back out into the world and move away from the past. Oddly enough a few years ago I had a class where one of the projects dealt with "finding yourself" At the time I had a really difficult time grasping the subject because I was happy and moving forward in life, I knew pretty much what I was doing and where I was going. It was only after being pushed into the rut that I began to understand what the teacher was driving at. From here the question moves into why do I choose this area? For as long as I can remember I've always adored the vastness and peacefulness of the area. I like that it takes a while to get anywhere and I like how properties are not squished together, suburbia just isn't for me. Every time I go out there I'm always meeting very kind and respectful people so I find that I can just open up and have no problem socializing with people (as opposed to my normal anti-social nature) So in the long run I think I'd like to retire to the area one day.

If I was to sum everything up into a sentence it would be this; I go to Litchfield to live.

Define "stuck"? Take the E320CDI, point it east and just drive for a few hours. You'll be amazed at what sorts of cool new places you'll find.

I just drove from Acton CA(northern LA County) to Peachtree City Ga to deliver Sylvia (1989 560SEL) to the young buyer and his dad. Wonderful trip, Mostly on Route 66 (I-40) to Memphis, TN. Then Southe on 78 through upper Alabama to I-20 then on through the pucker brush to PTC.
A great and peaceful drive of 2200 miles and NO problems, Save for that one Arkansas State trooper. But He didn't give me a ticket, just slowed down my trip across Arkansas.

Kinda nice to drive cross country with only your thoughts. Helps to give one balance.

I know how you feel being unemployed, It used to drive me crazy until I found anoter job. since I have owned horses, I found that they give one a reason to get up on those UE days...then I retired.

Hope you find work soon or peace or both.

What was your average speed on the highways and average MPG on the flat bits?
