w124 antennas, they are a lot stronger than w123

I am trying to figure out what is going on with my w124 antenna, the mast wont go up more than half way and the antenna switch doesnt seem to affect the movement of the antenna, only turning radio on and off makes it rise and fall, which happens at a delay that puzzels me.
I went out of car while a friend hit the on and of switch on the radio to see if i could raise it by hand but after it reaches its maximum extension it wont go up any higher, unlike w123 antennas with similar problems which i have been able to pull by hand, clean then lubricate.
Any ideas?
thanks

if you have an aftermarket radio, you are not sending information about the radio signal strength to the antenna circuitry.

You must manually control your antenna height.

prolly the plastic that attaches to the mast that's broken. pm me, i have a spare hirschmann mast for 6000el models

course the first thing i thought of when i read your post title was that w123 early antenna, the 6000u, had the metal casing, while the 6000e were plastic cased

I've seen the mast on these antennas get enough corrosion in them that one or more sections will become seized and won't extend. Likely your problem, you can try soaking it in penetrating oil but it probably will need a new mast if you want full extension.

A new mast is only $25 or so...
