Front End Clunk

While investigating a strange clunk coming from the front left of my 240d, I came across this (see pic) and figure its the cause of my noise. Happens while turning and hitting bumps.

To me, that's an upper control arm bushing. Confirmation on name?

Where can I get one and how hard is it to replace? Should I do ball joints while in there? Is it necessary to replace or should I just live with the noise?

Thanks!
Kat

those UCA bushings appear to be gone. UCA's are readily available. Check with PartsExpress above. Pretty easy to replace.

Bolts thru chassis on one end as pictured and the other end is the upper ball joint that connected to the spindle. You might want to do both sides.

The lower ball joint has nothing to do with this.

I was referring to the UCA assembly. I just checked PatrsExpress but can't seem to find the part. I did see it in other online stores.

If you think the current UCA is fine except for the worn bushing then you can decide if you just want to replace that part.

I just replaced my upper control arm 2 weeks ago. It's an easy job if the bolt is not frozen to the bushing. Ask me how I know.

The inner bushing on yours look pretty bad. Did you check the outer bushing and the ball joint? I don't think that ball joint is a replaceable item so you may be better off buying a new upper control arm, which includes everthing. I think I paid $27 for mine.

I'll suggest replacing the entire UCA, comes with the bushings installed and has a new ball joint on the other end. Same removal process either way.

It would help if you put your make model and year in your sig.

Specifically, the year since you mentioned the model. 240's were around for a long time and in different platforms.

Edit: here is a page from "allparts" for an 1980 model. It shows 4 different UCA's and one LCA. The UCA's are shown upside down in the pics.

I was able to buy my UCA's directly from my NAPA store. they're relatively inexpensive.
