Bulb Numbers

I've been searching both here and on the Internet in general but I can't seem to find a good answer anywhere, does anybody know what the bulb numbers are for the w123's? I mean, the tail light bulb, the stop light bulb etc. I'm used to the 1157, 1156 etc. This is driving me nuts.

If you pull a bulb and read the numbers stamped into the base, you will have either (a) a brand name and number or (b) volts and amps or watts numbers, or (c) both. Any auto parts store can then cross to something that they carry. There are also Mercedes part numbers but I assume you don't want to pay Mercedes dealer prices . . .

Mbeige had a thread on this not that long ago. I put 158's in my dash, and it's brighter than before.

Wal-Mart sells most of the bulbs our cars use. Don't put the 5w bulbs in the cluster though, it will melt the plastic.

From reading in Tech section I understand someone has used 5w bulbs for over 6 months without melting the holders . maybe the rheostat is kept a bit low?

A working cluster rheostat in the wild? I didn't know such a beast existed.

I replaced the dimmer on mine a few years ago... a rarity indeed

The dimmer on our former 81 300TD that had 370k miles was working

(barely)

For anyone interested, 168's are 5W, 158's are 3.3W. I have a working rheostat on my 84 with 319k. I was shocked.
