300,000 Mile Milestone!

Can't help posting on this. It's a milestone for sure, about 7:00 this morning. Not sure how much more I'll get from this great car, as the knock I have continues, but I'll run it until it stops!

I remembered that 18500 miles ago. Some knocks can be AC compressor loose.I replaced everything only to find that yesterday.

Tell us what major (if any) maintenance the car has had in its lifetime.

pawoSD 11-10-2009 09:42 PM

Awesome. I calculate with my new job (long commute) I will be sailing past the 300k mark in barely 5.5 months.....so sometime in March.

Maintenance?

About major work, surprisingly little. Original trans, and as far as I know, original injectors, believe it or not. I have the records from 2 previous owners, they don't show anything, and I've never messed with them either. I've had the car since 140K. I put in synthetic trans fluid when I got the car, still on that fluid.

It's had shocks and struts, of course, and tie rods, flex joints, and steering shock, all at about 160K.

Motor mounts at some point, don't remember when just now.

Vacuum pump grenaded at about 290K, which I've described in other posts, which took out the timing device. (I believe that shrapnel from this is the cause of my knock)

Glow plugs done at about 275K, I think they were done only once before, my indy got them out with no trouble.

Plastic fuel lines, yes, couple of times.

New wiper motor/transmission from a junkyard.

RR window regulator.

Muffler.

HVAC Blower motor electrical leads fried one day, big smoke through the vents, I thought the motor itself was a goner, but when I opened it up, I was able to just solder on new leads and carry on.

Oh yeah, the lift pump. Was having weird stalling issues a few minutes after starting, after some futzing I decided to change the pump, all issues went away.

Other than this, oil changes with Rotella dino at 3K intervals in my ownership, let's not debate this one! Just my particular MO. Fuel filters when I notice it won't pull up to ~5000 RPM any more, which is usually around 25K mile intervals.

So you can see that most things are just normal wear and tear and age. One of the best cars I've ever owned.

Rgds,
Chris W.

Well, in approx 33,000 more miles you can get your second mileage badge! Congrats!

Biodiesel300TD 11-11-2009 02:01 PM

Congrats!:D

I'm at 297k in my 240D. Should hit 300k in less than 2 months. :D

Congrats on the miles.

I would definitely start changing the tranny fluid/filter on a regular basis, 150K miles on the fluid is not a good plan, even for synthetic. I would also consider at least testing the injectors, new injectors made a significant difference in power and cold starting for mine. Valve adjustments?

I also took a photo of my odometer at 300,000. Sold the '85 TD at 350,000- still running strong!

I second servicing the injectors and transmission. Way overdue for both if they have not been touched.

No need for valve adjustments though, as it is a 606 motor with hydraulic lifters.

Nothing wrong with that.

The 617 is the best anyway! :D
