Full Synthetic Oil Question
 

I just changed the oil in my E320 (gasoline) wagon and have several quarts left over. Now it's time to change the oil in my '95 E300 Diesel and I want to know if I can use this oil or if I have to buy synthetic oil specifically for diesel.

My synthetic oil in my 300SD is good for gas engines also. Mine is Rotella T synthetic

you will find more info than you will ever want to know with regard to oil when you search the archives of this forum. Search "synthetic diesel oil" or something similar and watch your screen fill up!:D

In general the oil needs to be diesel rated, whether synthetic or not.

Here is something I found on my Ford Powerstroke web site. I will say that you will find more to read about oil than you ever wanted to know.

Only if the oil is a diesel oil (I'm guessing it is not)

Look on the side of the container for the API ratings.

Gassers will have ratings that begin with "S".

Diesels will have ratings that begin with "C". The most recent rating is "CJ", although the older "CI" will probably be fine.

You want the newest "CJ" rating, the new formulations have less of the additives to deal with sulfur to match the new fuels, also CAT safe.
