'83 240D Parking Brake Light Stays On

Driving a couple days ago, light just comes on while driving, hasn't gone off. I tried checking the switch, but can't even locate it. Fuses all good. Haven't checked grounds. Does anyone know where the switch is?

On a completely different matter, does anyone know what exactly stuck rings are?

check your brake fluid level. i think the light comes on when the fluid is low.

fluid's fine

there might be a pressure switch on the left side of the MC. Push the reset button to turn the light off.

I can't see a pressure switch.

You are sure that the fluid in the rear reaervoir of the MC is full?
It is sometimes hard to see into the rear chamber.
My clutch MC was leaking and draining the rear chamber and the brake light would come on.

isnt there a foot pedal for the emergency brake, when depressed light is on,when released comes off, pedal works with spring release, make sure yuor pedal is retracting completely, switch should be at pedal assembly on drivers side under dash.this is only relevant if were talking about e brake light .is your e brake completely off when driving?

That's correct, there are two chambers in the tank (front and back) with a level switch for each one. Make sure the tank is really full and that the electrical connections on the top are connected. The parking brake switch is under the driver's dash, I believe.

You are one of the only ones that actually addressed the "parking brake" light {ie: emergency brake}.
I need to check this on Smash. I removed the bulb a year ago to pass inspection and never really thought about it much since. I guess I need to go look for that switch. Will be interested in what the thread starter finds also.

Disconnect the sensors on top of the brake fluid reservoir and see if that changes anything.

Your reservoir might be full but the sensors might be bad

Alright, were those button looking things on top of the resevoir supposed to be pressure switches? Because pressing those did nothing. I took off the plugs, light turned off. Sprayed some WD40 on 'em, put 'em back on, light stays off. Don't know what the problem was, don't really care.

They're just connectors for the level switches inside the tank. As long as you have brake fluid.
