When are the '2' and '3' used?
I've never used either one on the shifter. Can anyone tell when they are used?

you actually use them every day, it's just a way of telling your transmission to use what gear the "2" selection your car will only use 1-2 gears the "3" will use 1-3 and D will Give you overdrive when needed, Atleast thats how I think it works...

I use it when someone is tailgating me by dropping into lower gear and flooring the accelerator. Creates an awesome burned diesel smoke behind me forcing the tailgater to back off.

If I'm driving in a hilly region, I'll use 3 to stop the car from shifting up into 4th. I'll also sometimes use 1 to keep the car in low when climbing a long steep hill.

When hauling dead bodies in the trunk.

Around here in Raleighwood 3rd sure did work better in stop and go traffic, now I just shift between 2 & 3.

When I'm driving around town I'll keep it in 3, same if the motor is still cold and I'm not on the highway.

'D' & 'S'
I use 'S' in the cold mornings to prevent the last upshift and keep it peppier...
|
I use "S" to prevent un-needed shifts to 4th around town.....that's about it. I like to choose when it uses 4th gear most of the time.
Maybe I just need to get a manual trans..... |
