OK this is good to know. From the pics Ive seen the W140 looks narrow inside but I guess i need to get into 1.

So it has the W wiper + passenger side 1? Hmm. kinda strange but ok.

So what else should I know before going to look over a 300SD? I know about the block issue and as mentioned I could (time permitting, yeah right) swap the engine from my 87 but Id rather have a 3.5L for the added torque that mule surely needs.

Is there any sites I can use to reference information about it? I know virtually nothing about them. Someone said they have power doors, I got scared.

It's about oil consumption and exhaust smoke. I don't know how you verify this from a test drive or PPI but that's how bent rods manifest. If you can live with the state of oil consumption and exhaust smoke, the condition of the rods is irrelevant. Well, to the extent it's not a problem in the making. I'd guess rods that are going to bend are already bent.

A 603.96 with standard 3.5 issue 55 trim turbo didn't feel to me to be any less able off the line than an SDL. A 3.5 without boost is perkier than a 3.0 with boost across an intersection.

Hattie has the right idea - the savings in buying an S320 over a same condition S350 will buy a lot of gas to compensate for the mpg deficit, which isn't all that much on the highway because the S320 has overdrive. Plus you have the option of LWB which is the proper way to enjoy a W140.
