I believe that my A/C clutch is having bearing issues, but would like some input to help validate a few things.
Problem Description: I started noticing a grinding noise (bearings it seemed) that gradually became quite loud. I pulled into my driveway, as it was quite close. I pulled the serpentine belt and noticed that the A/C clutch will grind slightly when I turn it, but it still turns fairly easily. As a note, the A/C functions well still.
So I got under the car and saw what looked like melted black plastic on the bottom side, but right between the clutch and compressor. With or without the A/C on, the grinding noise is present.
Does it seem like the clutch is the only culprit or would you suggest that perhaps the compressor is dying as well, thus causing the clutch to fail?
Much appreciated for the input,
Andy
