enlighten me about these headlights
Euro lights on the 240D. One lens says Hella and the other says Bosch, so I'm guessing one's been replaced. They're identical otherwise. I confess that other than appearance, I don't know the difference. Should I lay away spares for the eventual failure or is this something I can replace at the local bubba parts store when a light goes out? How are these different from Federal lights? Why does everybody ooh and aah over them? They're nice and bright, I'll say that.
thanks.

You will surely not find them at a Parts store, in fact they are hard to find in nice condition period. If you can find spares for the lenses (or whole assembly) I would surely stash some away. They are different from the Federal lights because they are non-sealed beam and use a real reflector that gives a much better beam and light distribution.

You can get Bosch replacement lenses at another online parts place, that is not on Arizona. Check with Phil first. He may be able to get them. If not, then check with Euro Parts Direct.

The bulbs are replaceable, unlike sealed beams which not only have bad lens design but you're stuck with the bulb that comes with it.
The next best thing to US DOT lights if you want to maintain the look is to get 7" round H4 conversions. These fit into the sealed beam slots so in essence you get the functionality of Euro lights but with the US look. Bosch/Hella/Cibie are available for these as well as cheaper items.

I'll take my chances with the lenses for now. I'm worried about the LIGHT. Maybe I'd better be more specific. Are the BULBS readily available at parts stores?

Bulbs for Euro lights, yes. H4 or 9003.
It's the main glass/lens that's not easily available.
