Or just disconnect the battery or the SBC pump itself prior to starting work...any of those will prevent the pump from cycling while the caliper is empty. Apparently the piston can shoot out of the caliper if the pump cycles while you have it off the car with the pads out.

Can't disconnect the battery as there is a backup. At least this is what I understand. When I did the brakes on my friends '06 E350, we simply closed and locked the doors then left the keys on the tool box where we could see them.

His wife has a nasty habit of setting off the panic alarm from inside the house just to scare the crap out of us... I didn't want to find out the hard way if this also actuates the SBC.

Evan - To my knowledge you are correct concerning the backup battery.

Marty is also correct in that the harness can be disconnected from the SBC pump.

MBDOC has previously recommeded the "go to sleep" method for DIY'ers on the Tech Forum.
