why does the fuel overflow when fueling my 300td
 

when putting diesel in my 300td wagon it over flows. i have to fuel very slowly. is there a flap in the tank that is stuck?

Welcome to the Forum.

When the fuel goes in, the air it displaces has to excape some where. so it is coming out the filler neck as the fuel goes in. sounds like a vent is blocked.

I`ll look in one of my FSM and get back to you. Iam not familiar with the TD fuel tank.

I have to fuel slowly too, but mainly so the fuel doesn't foam up massively.

The vent line on the diesels only allows air into the tank, not out of it.....so it can't be that. Maybe you're just fueling too fast. :D

Are we sure the OP has a wagon? Many people write TD for turbodiesel.

Well if we don`t know what we have, here is the 300D Fuel tank.

True, the fuel foams when going in, just the nature of Diesel fuel. when I
hear it coming up the tube, I click off the nozzel. wait for the foam to die down, then slowly fill, rock, burb the baby, fill, rock, burp until I get it to
the tip of the filler neck.

If you want, post what part of the country you hang your hat on. not

Has anybody tried raising the right rear corner of the car to help with this?
Filling the auxiliary tank on my '68 Ford Bronco was really slow, and it helped a lot when I drove the rear wheel up on a 4-inch block of wood. Steve

I understand the fuel pump dispensing the diesel can contribute to this problem, I complained about it to the person behind the counter, was okay the next time.

Diesel fuel just has a natural tendency to foam. I've gotten a "backfire" of fuel from pretty much every diesel vehicle I've put fuel into with the possible exception of a tractor where you're putting the nozzle directly into the tank rather than into a pipe.

I don't have any problem filling the tank at full speed on my TD so something must be wrong unless you're using the giant trucker diesel nozzle. The TD has an expansion tank in the region of the spare tire since the tank is low and flat. Don't know how exactly that expansion tank is connected to the fuel tank and whether it could be the source of your problem, but I would at least check it.

my 300td is a wagon and im in orlando. i had the tank resealed by a radiator shop 4 years ago and now the sealer is comming apart and clogging my filters. i think my fueling problem is that, ive had the tank out 3 times to clean it and the expansion tank is hooked up. when i say i have to fuel slow i mean extremely slow. its as if the filler neck is completely blocked and im filling the tank through the overflow. there has to be a blockage like an anti syphing thing. it's eating away at my soul!!!!

the firt time to get it resealed 2nd to inspect,diag,clean. 3rd to try to get the flapper in the tank loose
