New engine technology is just nuts. They're like computers with high pressures, speeds and temperatures. If anything, they're more complicated. I think if I were to buy a new car, it'd be electric. AMG needs to hop on that soon, and hopefully they will now that Daimler bought that huge stake in Tesla.

In the long run, the stricter rules to be a blessing in disguise for automakers, which until now has been able to sell diesel cars in many states like California.

The technology in the new generation "clean diesels" is amazing. I think I counted 5 throttles on a V6 TDI last weekend, plus more wires and hose malarky than you could shake a fork at. The glow plugs are pressure sensitive... they can sense peak cylinder pressure. The fuel rail runs at ~28,000 PSI!
