1983 300SD - 109,000, worth?

It's been awhile...I had a 1978 300D awhile back and came on this site for help a lot. I had to sell her cause I moved out to Hawaii - sad to see her go. Anyway, I've got another chance to buy a classic Mercedes and wondered what y'all thought about it's general worth.

It's a 1983 300SD, silver/blue. It was driven only when the owner was in town on vacation, so it only has 109,000 miles on it. No rust. He says he did the normal oil changes. The car is perfect inside and out. New battery, new tires. AC doesn't work, but he thought a $50 freon recharge would fix it. (?) Started right up. He took the plates off, so I didn't get it up to the mph I would have liked and he said it takes about 5 mins for the turbo to get going. Sounded good, drove well. Looks and feels like a great classic car. Any thoughts on its value?

A set of walkaround pictures as well as interior pics would help.

sorry don't have any photos, but it is very clean inside and out - looks right off the line.

It has problems that might be costly to fix so offer accordingly.
5 min for turbo to get going is a problem. Needing an AC recharge means the system leaks. I'd assume a new compressor, expansion valve, and drier would be needed in additon to the R12. Maybe some new AC hoses.

I'm sure five minutes for the turbo to get going is a typo...

well, that's what the owner said, but I'll need to clarify that.

The owner may understand one thing and the problem be another, get a clarification, drive it, make a decision.

+ get a second opinion . . . have it inspected by a mechanic who knows these cars, turbo & A/C could cost you a lot to fix . . .

yup, looks like it takes about 5 mins at 30-40 mph to get the turbo charge. I think I'm going to buy it anyways - dive in and see what happens.
