220D parking side lights!

Ok so I changed all the bulbs in before and one was jammed and stuck in one of the sockets, they've never worked since we got the car and I had no idea why so I just considered them a lost cause.

Well last night I degreased the engine and rinsed it, and then started her up so the heat would evaporate the water and since it was dark turned on the headlights low and behold the parking side lights were on!! except for the one jammed in and I assumed it was because of that problem. I even drove around with on for a little bit. It was kind of cool/nice to see them working for the first time, not to mention it looked pretty good!

So I decided to see if I could get the one jammed to turn on, once I started messing with it they all turned off. The only way I could get the bulb out was breaking it and grabbing by the metal body to pull it out. So I went got new bulbs and tried it but the new ones got stuck and the lights did not come on again. So can I say it's this socket that is giving me trouble?

Maybe I can get another one from a jy car and hopefully they'll come back on? I saw what the car looked like for the first time with them on and I'd like to try and attempt to fix them again if possible.

On these older cars, grounding is an issue and somewhat elusive. Wire connections need to e checked and rechecked to be good.

I once had to go wire by wire through an entire ignition circuit to find out why a car wouldn't start. It was a car purchased from a museum. Everyone thought it would be perfect because it had been inside. Well, corrosion still took place and the wire between the coil and distributor broke on the inside even though the wire insulation looked new.

You may get good at wiring by the time you finish this, but you can be sure it all works dependably.

I'll check all the grounds in the engine compartment after I write this, but is there a different set of grounds for the side lights, that I might miss? I think it may have been that because once I had washed the engine they magically came on lol

Oh man going wire through wire, how long did that take you? I know it was well worth it because you found the problem but man that must have been tedious. Thanks for the info, i'll check the grounds now..

Also, every time I see your signature, it makes me want my Citroen AMI 6 Break Such a cool little car.

I still have 13 running Citroen engines. Just haven't started to do anything with them yet, still waiting to find out about my building.

Article yesterday in the Detroit News says commercial property values in Wayne, Oakland and macomb counties will drop as much as 50% within a year. Maybe I should not be unhappy that they haven't answered.
