Priming Fuel System
'84 617 going to change fuel filters today, the white plastic piece next to the inline filter is the manual pump, right? You unscrew it and pump it to pressurize the system then screw it back?
Sorry for the simple question, don't have a manual for the car. Have never had the luxury of a manual pump on any others I've worked on and it seems straightforward but I wanted to check.

^Agreed, it may leak tho, easy to replace with a newer style black unit that does not require unscrewing to unlock, or screwing back in to lock.

You got it. Make sure to fill the spin on filter with diesel, ATF, or diesel purge or you will be pumping all day to get the car started again.

well you have probABly done it already, but i would not even fool with the hand pump. you should be able to change both filters, filling the new spin on with fuel before fitting, and just start the car as normal, keep your foot on the throttle a little so if it starts to sputter as it ingests some air it will power through it. works for me on my 80 and 85
