You can simply rap the boot with duct tape. How much has leaked out?

Check the Pick n Pull yards. Just because this is the end of the line for all these fine pieces of engenering, there are good parts on them.
I pulled an axle off an old beat up ratty rusty 240D last June in Portland Oregon at a PNP, the PO had just replaced the R/R axle, wasn`t even dirty. $25 out the door. There are a ton of W126 in the PNP from the clunker program, most are the 2nd gen 126, so not sure if the axles are the same as the first generation like the 300SD. saw 560SEL with 129xxx miles . First, this is not a repair, this is like first aid to get your car back to the house, or shop for repairs.
They make some really sticky grease. its blue.... I can't remember the name of it, think it was chevron brand. anyway, using a spoon pack the grease into the rip, until everything is covered in it. if you have duct tape, like Jeremy said, wrap it up and use some baling wire, and you are good to roll. I didn't have duct tape. it took about 4 hours for the grease to fall out. then i had to re-spoon it. When I got home I installed a pick n pull axle.

The axle isn't making noise so I'm hoping I can buy time until I get it replaced this christmas.

DO NOT buy the advance auto $100 axles, they aren't worth a damn. I bought them(I drive essentially a parts car) and the boots ripped after 20k.

For you a repack is in order. Dieselgiant has a great write up on it, but he skips all of the steps that are the hardest (removing the tire, draining the differential, and other misc stuff I don't remember). I'm almost tempted to do this myself. I just wish I had more time before school!

So to buy me some time I went all crazy on some gear goop stuff from Chevron and I got a lot of duct tape.
I filled the boot with the goop and sealed it with duct tape. Tell me what you think It was a lot harder to do then it looks since I don't have a jack right now

I have you beat: my Advance auto axle failed before the car came off of the jack stands. The boot on the second one started leaking within 1 mile, then the inner join came apart after maybe 3000 miles. Definitely not worth it! Check out: GSK Axles - NOT WORTH IT, no matter how low the price

If I get 20k out of them I'll consider that reasonable for the $70/side. If I count correctly the axle swap is about 8 bolts and a c-clip harder than changing the diff fluid. I can spare an afternoon and $140 every 2 years...
