Nate,
Good Deal with your progress todate. However be patient with the removal of the mount bolts. Make sure they are clean and your socket is fully engaged. Stripping or breaking these will kill your new found joy quickly. Be patient, and I have found instead of brute force on the breaker bar, a rapping, tapping repeatedly on the ratchet will "break" the years of bonding on these fastners. Apply what ever weasel pi$$ you have to penetrate the bolts well inadvance of your removal. Good Luck, Gary

Yep, I'm not taking it back to that shop (they cost as much as a dealer, it seems).
Now that the 'repair' period has expired, I'm just going to go to the Meineke down the street - I'll have to go through the whole procedure, but they'll be able to see that fuel leaks and motor mounts were what it failed for previously, and those'll have been fixed Maybe I was a little overzealous in saying it's "much louder". I compared a video I made previously with one from today, and it's barely discernible... Thanks for keeping with me guys, this is a learning process

Ok, today we did the driver's side mount. I would have done the other side, however, I really would like to get a little advice about how to get at it before I go there. I've attached some pictures (next post) from down under, so we have reference.
The driver's side was pretty easy, I had hit it with PB blaster several days before. Got it out, compared new and old (picture attached), clearly collapsed. Having the appropriate 6-point socket is crucial for the top. Tapping the breaker bar worked wonderfully. The next thing is why you need a sense of humor while wrenching. Upon positioning the mount and starting to thread the bolts in, the one on the bottom slipped (the mount wasn't exactly centered and I was having to fiddle with it). Then gravity helped. Well...these pictures are for your amusement

There's about an inch of clearance between the flexible pipe and the mount bolt (I'm not sure if the pipe is directly over it, though). It looks like this is the only way to get at it from the top. I'd rather not take apart the exhaust too much.
Any advice is really appreciated

Flexible section nothing.
We got access to it by taking off the air box, and noise paneling. I was really dreading what would happen if we couldn't get the breaker bar + extensions and joints to work, since basically everything exhaust related is directly above it. I finally gave up after about half an hour with the bar and extensions. What the hell, I said. Stuck a 17mm box wrench down there and it came right off...aha!! I really had to jack up the engine to get the old one out...and then even more to get the new one in. I'll post pictures later of how much they were collapsed. I couldn't believe my car was on when I started it to drive off the ramps. Even with what I think is one glow plug out, I couldn't feel anything. Was my car on? Do I need to keep cranking? Haha. So, this is what it's like...awesome. When I turned the engine off, not a single vibration. Wow. Pleasant surprise, despite it being frigid outside (snow in coastal VA!) Both mounts were mercedes OE, so, I might assume that they're original...do they last 230k miles? We'll see if it passes inspection tomorrow, I don't think I'll have a problem. I'll keep the mounts + DV seals in the trunk as evidence.

Passed Inspection
Here are the pictures. Driver's side mount is above. I was really surprised at how much they were collapsed. Granted, it's not like they're not supporting the engine, they're just not damping the vibration as much as they should...
