Rescue this 300CD - Somebody...

An interesting car -- somebody should pick this thing up, do the minor repairs needed, fliip it and make some money...or keep it and enjoy it.

Here's the Craigslist ad: http://raleigh.craigslist.org/cto/1478499774.html

Webpage for car: http://cedricwilliams.com/LandingPages/1983MercedesBenz300CD/tabid/86/Default.aspx

** I don't know the person or the car, just saw the ad as I was doing my Craigslist surfing for old MB diesels...

yeesh - kinda hard to imagine making any money from a flip at or near the asking price.

The whole interior needs to be recovered (Major $$ unless you already have a donor) - climate control problems could easily run almost $1500, depending on the issues. I think it could cost twice what the seller estimates to get the car in retail condition.

It would be hard to get $4500 to break even in the current market IMHO

My thought about someone maybe making some money was based on the fact that most members of this forum, do their own work and have sources for used parts etc...

Also - I'm not an expert on the coupes, but it appears they seem to bring some nice money - more than a sedan or wagon. Based on the sellers ad - it looks like he's anxious to sell the car...so I thought someone could make a crazy offer and see what happens. Buy it cheap, and wait out the downturn in the market.

I'm not a CD person, nor do I have space to park/store it - I'm reserving my space and time for the W115 I'm shopping for...

Not worth restoring IMO. Too many miles and a salvage title being the biggest factors. This one will never fetch $10,000 + like the low mileage need nothing examples you see once in a while.

Looks pretty straight and clean.

IF it is totally rust free AND you're looking for a DD to fix up a little at a time, it might be worth a grand IMO. You'd probably end up putting twice what the seller is estimating into making it a nice (not pristine, just nice) car.

Any signs of rust and it would hardly be worth towing home.
