These have been "coming to the US" for a couple of years now. It was last fall, then last spring, then this fall, and still no Mahindras. I signed up for a test drive more than a year ago, and still no contact. I'd enjoy driving one, but I'm not holding my breath.

I wonder how these things will fare in the crash tests? That will probably be the deciding factor in me considering one a few years down the line.

I've been interested in these things forever it seems.

I would want one with a manual tranny but apparently those are coming later if at all.

Have Americans become so lazy and jaded that they insist on paying so much more for a potentially very expensive repair?

I love manuals.

I wish my W124 300D had one.

According to the interview Mahindra has sponsored NASCAR and a bull riding competition/circuit.

They're giving it a go and the guy in charge used to work for GM so he's familiar with the U.S. market.

A small diesel pickup is exactly what America needs IMHO.

Maybe it will be successful.

If so, maybe Jeep would get off their rear ends and build the Gladiator with a diesel.

I have been lusting for that thing since the prototype was unveiled.

According to Australia's testing body, ANCAP, they don't do too well.

It got a perfect score in the side impact tests, but did terribly in the front offset crash. The version tested by ANCAP didn't have airbags so that may have contributed to the low score. Airbags will be standard in the US version, which means that (hopefully) the US version will fare better in the front offset crash. It's still bad to see how bad it fares w/o airbags. It appears that our cars with nearly 40 year old technology and no airbags can protect the occupants better than this modern truck, but I was kind of expecting that.

Yeah, I heard bull riding is big in India.

Grrr! Lack of a real transmission is one of my complaints about the new diesel BMW as well. I'm afraid manual transmissions may be going the way of manual spark advance. I guess that means I'll have to keep my 240D (or at least the transmission out of it)

Hi every one! Down here in Australia they brought a Mahindra out about 8 years ago. It was distributed through some unknown mob. It was a bit like an old jeep. It had a copy of the peugeot diesel motor. It was crap! 50k miles and the motor was dead. They are trying to sell a diesel one in Australia but no one wants them. izuzu has just started selling a good 4x4 as GM has stopped selling them under their name here. Unless you want a good boat anchor, I would leave the mahindra in India!
