93 Wagon

I'm going to see if I can get the body axles etc everything for a 93 wagon at pick n pull, Can i put a Diesel in it?

The usual "put a diesel in a gasser" rules apply. In particular, legal ones like not being able to put in an older engine. But hey, a w124's a w124. Shouldn't be too hard.

I'm not aware of the hardships involved..... I've never done this before.. What will I need to do other then the obvious of getting the engine trans ECU Trans controller etc. will I need to beef up the front end?

The main legal problem will be getting a smog exemption (if your state exempts diesels) or a smog change (since you will no longer have the engine the car came with). If you need a '93-up engine (OM602) to go with the '93 body then you will need all of the ECU stuff that came with that engine and perhaps the transmission as well. You might want to buy an engine-trans combo so that you know the two will go together, not just physically but as regards all the ECU stuff.

If your state will let you put in an older engine, a 603 might be nice as it will be much simpler as regards ECU and if there's no inspection you can take off all of the smog stuff except for the electronic idle control.

A '95 or '96 OM606 with its 4-speed mechanical transmission might fit but I'm not sure of the length of the 606 block compared to the 602. Early 124s had a 603 in them so it certainly can be done but I don't know what front-end changes (if any) were made in the 124 after they stopped building the 603 motor.

Well, florida Dosnt have emissions testing, the only thing I would have to do is tell them it's Diesel instead of gas on Engine part, but thats part of the inspection as I would have to have the title as rebuilt or specialty Vehicle.

There's a guy selling a similar car with a 617 in it on Autotrader.

He's somewhere in Wisconsin.

It's a beautiful car... Albeit the bio diesel thing....I dont know about the 5Cyl diesel though.. I've never had an odd numbered cylinder vehicle, it seems it would be slightly more difficult to work on. thanks for posting that though! I'm glad someone else had done it

Five cylinder MB engines have proven themselves quite nicely.

It's just a straight six with one less cylinder.

If I were to buy it I would tear all that WVO stuff out and sell it.

I would then run nothing but regular diesel through it.

The guy even says he will include two more injection pumps with it.

I assume they haven't been used for WVO yet.

I seriously considered it and the guy says that the only reason he's selling it is because his wife and daughter think it's ugly(?).

So, he has fitted a Jetta TDi wagon with another WVO system.

This is all according to his response to my email to him.

i cant imagine them thinking that car is ugly.... It's Beautiful, I would buy it if I had the 6 grand...

They also said it was too big.

I suspect that was their real complaint but again I don't really understand it.

Maybe they have an inferiority complex that prevents them from being happy in an MB.

I don't but I also don't have six grand laying around.
