1995 E300 Starting Issue

So when I start my car after it's cold, if I press the accelerator before it warms up, the engine will race pretty high rpm's and I have to shut it down via the key. I can pop the hood and push the cable assembly back and then start it and life is fine until it warms, but it seems like the IP is sticky until it warms.

Is this something that others have had issues with? The car has 285k on it and has the orig IP I believe. As a note, I can start the car and let it warm up for 3-5 mins and then I have zero issues with it.

Thoughts?

Forget the IP, Check your Engine Mounts.

Worn-Out engine mounts WILL, and DO cause the engine to tilt to one side, pulling the accelerator cable with it. This is especially true if the cable is too tight to start-off with.

No, others do not have this issue. Something is definitely wrong. Suggest checking the entire throttle linkage. I doubt there is something like a sticky IP itself.

Another question before I tackle this job...are there just 2 motor mounts for the 1995 E300? Is there a tranny mount that I should change while doing the work? Last question...is the IP on this car oil lubbed or does it get lubbed from the fuel?

There are two motor mounts as well as a separate transmission mount. Its the Motor mounts that would be causing the intermittent high idle problem, and not the transmission mount. Change both motor mounts. Not Just one.

The two motor mounts may look identical but they are NOT. They have different part numbers. Make sure that you get the right ones and that you don't mix up the Left and Right mounts when installing them.

You may want to check the transmission mount in any case. Its not an expensive part, and if worn-out its rather easy and quick to change.
