Leaving the plastic bag weathering panel off
Hey guys, I need to put my door panel back together since I have to leave for school on sunday. Since I still have not received my replacement vacuum door lock pod, can I just reattach everything without reglueing the plastic paneling back or is this a major no no?
I'll have the door off on the 20th to reinstall this newer pod, but I don't want to damaged the door frame by leaving off this plastic covering. Edit: It's the moisture barrier I am talking about.

Shouldn't be a problem. It's a moisture barrier, but unless you're in constant torrential downpours in the tropics, you'll be fine. I would imagine it's there to protect the fiberboard door panel from too much exposure to moisture.
Go to a hobby store and get a spray can of repositionable adhesive. Works great!

I have all of the glues and such. I'm going to cut a trash bag to size and refit it on when I come home.

you can use clear contact paper as a replacement as well...

I used the old ones as a template and made new ones with fresh stuff (clear stuff from Home Depot). Looks much better, no flapping noise and the moisture cannot get to the door panels.
As long as your window seals are in good shape you should be ok. Be prepared for some stink if you leave it like that for too long. I know the insides of my doors are not exactly "minty fresh". I would hate to have that nasty smell inside the car.

I've had one off in my wagon for several years. No issues. So a few weeks isn't going to hurt.

My door panels are minty fresh actually. I was impressed with the quality of the paneling and watching the windows go up and down was really cool.
These are INCREDIBLY well engineered cars.

These are still available from the mfg. About $5 per door.
