123 windshield wiper problem
 

In my 1979 300TD wagon, I had a strange problem today. I turned on my windshield wipers during a brief rain, but when I attempted to turn them off, they would NOT turn off. The wiper switch on the turn-signal stalk would operate them at high speed, normal speed, but it would not operate them on delay and it would not turn them off. I had to pull the fuse to drive without the wipers scraping across the dry windshield.

When I got home, I took a turn signal/wiper switch I had taken off a parts car and pulgged the big plug on the end of this unit in place of the big plug on the unit in the car--but the results were the same: I could not turn the wipers off.

I suppose it could be a case of two bad switches, or maybe there is a relay that could cause this problem. Any help would be most appreciated.
