RIV timing tool to rent, anyone?

Apparently some jacka$$ rented MB DOC's RIV timing lights last February and never returned it. Nice, huh? Shame on whoever took advantage of the tool rental system in that way!

Anyone else got a set to rent out? I'm good for whatever deposit you might require, as you WILL get them back in the same condition you send them in!

Many thanks!

PM sent (to him and another forum member). Thanks, Brian!

EDIT: Brian, if you need to lock this thread, I understand. I posted the request to be proactive in finding one, as I'd like to get this done before it gets too cold to work comfortably outside. I'm not even 100% certain that this is going to solve my issues, but it can't hurt to check (and set) IP timing since I have no idea whether it's ever been looked at.

These requests should really go in the tool rental forum...........but, I realize that nobody visits there to read them.

Yup... that's exactly why I posted it here. No biggie if it needs to go away, though; I'll understand.

Is this a good time talk about the plausibility of timing the 60x series engines via drip method?

I have a few ideas and was looking for feedback.

No special tools would be required except the DV holder socket.

jt -- there was an extensive thread on this matter that I was reading through last night. All signs pointed to the RTI lights as a superior method for setting timing; I'll see if I can find the thread again and link to it. BC made a number of well-informed posts in that thread, so maybe he'll remember it, too.

thanks.

I should have searched. I agree its superior, but drip should be 'do-able' correct?

Here's the thread:

Specialized Indicator for IP Timing

Looks like the drip method is indeed do-able, but the RIV method just sounds so darned simple/accurate!

BTW, Brian, feel free to fix my typo in the thread title; it should read "to rent," rather than "top rent." What can I say... my morning cuppa hadn't kicked in just yet.

..........fixed.........

This is why I have never participated. I lost a very expensive pre chamber tool set several years ago to an MShop member.

It's just a sad fact about todays world. As much as I wanted to believe that folks here on Mshop are immune to such thievery I was proven wrong. The vast majority are, I'm sure, indeed trustworthy, but how do you know when you are dealing with that fraction of a percent?

Can't blame you there. This is exactly why I find it wholly reasonable to pony up a deposit equal to or greater than the cost of the tool. Sorry to hear someone pimped you, too!

I just went through a handful of threads, including the one mentioned here, and did not find any evidence of drip timing being completed.

Any mechanically injected diesel should allow for a drip / spill timing adjustment, though.
