Transmission Leak!

Oh yeah its leaking like nobodies business. Noticed it saturday after I had parked at Colin's place and noticed a good sized puddle under the car and I had not been running the AC.

Called Pierre, my mechanic, which he then told me to blow into the dipstick to make sure the breather wasnt clogged, it wasnt, (and I feel dirty lol), so he highly suspects the front pump seal.

Ordered the seals just now and Friday we are pulling the slushbox out and resealing it. Other than that it shifts just fine and could use a slight vac adjustment.

I willl try and take pics and make it somewhat of a DIY

Mine started leaking bad 2 weeks after I changed filter and pan gasket.Turned out to be just the gasket.

Graplr 11-30-2009 03:33 PM

Yes, pictures please. Mine leaks too. Am about 98.371% sure it is not the gasket.

TheDon 11-30-2009 03:36 PM

well its leaking from where the transmission and engine mate. The pan gasket is dry.

I can see fluid on the grate on the bottom of the transmission.

jt20 11-30-2009 03:39 PM

I had the same leak until I set the fluid level at the proper height. A tad lower wouldn't hurt any gnomes either.

Hatterasguy 11-30-2009 05:41 PM

Well that seal didn't last long.

If you have the money you should just get it rebuilt while its out. The torque converter shaft is probably scored a bit, thats why the new seal went bad.

Its not that hard to yank, everything should come apart too.

Hatterasguy 11-30-2009 05:46 PM

Oh before you pull it their is a plug on the passanger side, I think its for the speedo sensor or something I forget. But I know you can see it from up top if you look. That thing leaked on me before and left a nice puddle, but I replace the O ring. Thats easy to do you don't have to drop the trans for that.

leathermang 11-30-2009 06:30 PM

I cured a leak in my 95 Lincoln this summer by adding Trans-X....
Still holding just fine 6 months later,,
it was leaking one quart per 75 miles..

colincoon 11-30-2009 08:03 PM

You didn't forget to add PS fluid did you?

Are you and the horse going to need a ride to the GTG?

pawoSD 11-30-2009 08:28 PM

At 292k it might be a huge waste of time and $$ to pull the trans just to replace the front seal.....it's probably rebuild time. My anally maintained trans on my SD blew the reverse band at only 281k....so at 292k yours is on borrowed time. At least have it "fully resealed" and they can look inside to determine the condition of the clutch discs and such.

TylerH860 11-30-2009 08:48 PM

Whaddya know. Transmission issues. :D and no sound encapsulation panels. :D

79Mercy 11-30-2009 08:51 PM

Good luck Joe, will you and the boat be at the GTG

TheDon 11-30-2009 10:36 PM

yeah no damn belly pans yet and a **** transmission. I don't have that much money to rebuild it but I will call Pierre tomorrow and see what he thinks.

I'll be at the gtg regardless if the transmission is in or out. I am going to be there on Friday anyways with Pierre doing this job or what ever it may be a rebuild.

The PS return line needs to be replaced since it has the incorrect diameter cheater hose on it. Not the proper $30 mercedes benz hose which is metric

TheDon 12-02-2009 12:40 PM

its weird, the SDL hasn't left a mark of transmission fluid at all, the level is fine and the transmission shifts fine.

Friday I cannot go to my mechanics because I just found out today I have a final exam, mid day so that puts up an issue there. So, we'll figure out when this is going to get done. I might just see if Pierre will take it the 16th since ill be gone until the 23rd anyways. I would really prefer to be there and see whats going on when this job is done.

jt20 12-02-2009 01:06 PM

I read a few threads here on the issue back when mine was leaking... someone had this leak happening only in reverse, but much more severe. I forget what the issue was, but it was remedied in the thread.
