Exactly. The starter wiring that I mentioned is not the issue if it started using the method you mentioned.


I thought if the NSS was bad, it would still start in neutral but not park? I guess that is wrong??

Sometimes that will give you a clue that it's the NSS, but you can't count on it.

I had a similar problem, my 300cd sarted fine everytime. I went out one cold morning cycled the glow plugs turned key to start position, but noting happened. I had no spring tension in the start position either. After removing the ignition switch housing, I found that the piece than inserts into the actual switch portion had the tabs snaped off. The only thing that was turning the switch were the broken pieces inside until they turned into smaller pieces that only let me be in the run position but no start position. I turned my key to the run position and jumped the starter and it fired right up no problem. Luckly I could also drive it to a warm garage.

I also had that failure once.
