Power Steering Return Hose Replacement

I've seen lots of talk on the group about how to flush the power system fluid, replace the filter, and replace the return hose. After noticing an increased loss of fluid I've found that the low pressure return hose is weeping so badly that you could almost call it crying.

On to my question. I've found replacement hoses online for $30 to $35. Is there anything wrong with just using cheaper hose? If not, what is the correct size? My 300D is my only car so I can't pull the hose and take it in for comparison.

Thanks for any help. Everyone on this group is awesome.

I have about a foot of spare return hose. It's not enough to use, but you could use it to take to the parts store to see if they have something similar (I'm in Athens). You'll have to wait for other responses to see if there is something special about that hose.

If you already have it - you should use it, if not, the OEM hose from Phil is just a bit more expensive than the price you listed and it's a perfect fit for the claps you already have on there... I made a mistake and purchased a P/S hose from NAPA only to find out that it's significantly smaller outside diameter so my clamps did not fit on there... so rather then buying new clamps too I ordered the proper hose - but you could go either way.

Anything will be better than the current 'wheeping' ones... :)

Good luck -
James

I am putting together an order now for some parts and the power steering hose is on my list. Allparts has them for $15.16 part MBZ005577

This is the part that came up for my 82 300sd. Might want to verify that it will work on your car before you order it.
