throttle linkage mount w123

On my 83 300D the bushing in the throttle linkage on the firewall has completely come apart.
I am fairly certain that i can make this bushing from something else, but i am going to need some help for some specifications.
This is the part i am refering to
http://www.allpartsexpress.com/ShopByVehicle.epc?q=1983-MERCEDES--BENZ-300dt--/--L5--998cc--3.0l--Diesel--Fi--Turbo-Cables--Pedal--Lever--Components&yearid=1983%40%401983&makeid=MERCEDES+BENZ%40%40MERCEDES+BENZ%40%40X&engineid=1193778%40% 40300DT++%2F+L5-2998cc+3.0L+DIESEL+FI++Turbo%40%40300DT&catid=Cables%2C+Pedal+%26+Lever+Components%40%40Cables%2C+Pe dal+%26+Lever+Components&subcatid=Accelerator+Linkage+Mount@@Accelerator+Linkage+Mount&mode=PA
I need to know the dimensions from the plate to the outside of the bushing, as well as from the plate to the end of the rod.
This is purely from the firewall side towards the firewall.
Thanks for any help
Andrew

I would go to the Junk Yard and get another one to use or one that is in good enough condition to get the dimensions from.

It looks like a skateboard wheel. Maybe that would work.

A PNP version couldn't cost more than $2. I would replace it.

Hmm, I just bought a new one. Never thought about just replacing the bushing. I have to install it on someone's car Saturday, so I can't tear it apart.

lol, yeah a skateboard wheel is definitely what i was thinking about. I wish i had a junkyard around here to look at for one of these. i have an idea of a few sitting around, ill have to go take a look.

ImBroke, the dimensions i need are not destructive at all. Do you have the part in hand? If you do i would be greatly appreciative for a few measurements if you have the time.
Andrew

I do have the part in hand. New Mercedes part too. Shoot me what you need, and I'll get the measurements.

Thanks alot, basically i need to know the diameter of the bushing, the distance from the bracket that mounts to the firewall to the back side of the rotating piece, and the location of the end of the pin by the e clip to the back side of the bushing. I am going to try to make a lil picture of what i need in a few minutes.

Andrew, A is 7mm. I measured across C, and it's 38mm. However, B goes through the metal plate, which is curved, and I cannot get my measuring device on the right side of b. It is 25mm to the bottom of the plate, and the plate is 1.6mm thick where the screw holes are. It's an 8mm shaft that runs through. Hope this helps. Tony

that helps alot.
The last thing i need to know is what the very back side of the bushing by the firewall looks like. Is it flush with the end of the shaft? or does the bushing come further out than the end of the shaft?

Neither. Both sides of the bushing are flat on a plane perpendicular to the axis of the shaft. Therefore, the rear of the shaft protrudes from the bushing.

The bushing is substantially a truncated sphere; the radiused sides are necessary to accommodate movement of the engine relative to the firewall.

lol, i just took a look at the car again and saw that shape. Im fixing to go to lowes to look at what they have.
Thanks for the help folks, ill make sure to post up what i find.
Andrew

wademunkey 12-04-2009 03:44 PM

alright, i feel kinda bad that im in school to be an engineer, but what exactly do you mean by truncated sphere?
Andrew

wademunkey 12-04-2009 05:44 PM

alright, so i went to lowes and found a 2.5 inch caster that has as near a 8mm center hole as your going to find, and the width of the caster itself is right at the same as the remainder of the bushing i have sitting here.
I have two more measurements that i could use.
On the bushing itself it has a rounded edge on it. I would love to have the smaller diameter of the top side, and the larger diameter at the middle.
Andrew
