Strange turn signal symptoms
 

Yesterday, while diving home, I noticed the right side turn signal falsed a few times then died. I tried the left, and it was dead as well.

I do know that the hazards and turn signals are tied together.

So, after trying the signals again, I turned on the hazards, and they worked, and the turn signals began working again. A few miles down the road, again no turn signals, but when I pressed on the hazard switch they came back to life.

This morning all was working again.

I'm thinking to be safe to replace the hazard switch and the flasher relay, as the both are 28 years old.

What do you giys and gals think?

I don't know the answer but my car has the exact same symptoms. It happened again this morning while pulling out of the driveway. I go to turn my right blinker and nothing. I flip the hazards on and the off and the blinkers come back. This first happened about 8 months ago and has slowly become more frequent.

I was thinking about posting the same question as you.

I'd start with the flasher relay, then replace the swich.

You probably are getting low on blinker fluid.

Why do the hazards work flawlessly then?

The hazard fluid and blinker fluid use the same reservoir, similar to the brake/clutch master cylinder. The blinkers operate until the fluid goes down below the hole.

While you're down there, replace your muffler bearings.

One of the things I love about this forum --- you can always count on good solid advice. Don't start flaming me, but I use WVO blinker fluid in my car and it blinks fine (and smells good too)

Your flasher flushings are failing fast. Fushplace them now.

I have a simular problem actually... my signals work, but the left turn side will blink Quickly like a bulb is out but they are fine, and both blink quickly. Where is the Turn signal Relay so i can replace it?

I've haved that problem.On a w126 the flasher for turn signals is under the dash.I replaced mine,and it cured the problem.

82 300d needed flasher.

Tried disassembling / cleaning contacts, still stuck.

80's 300sd not same, 300d 3prong, 300sd 4 prong, might still work it though.

But got a working 300d for free.

I figured it was one of the two.

I checked the level of the blinker fluid, it was fine, but needs to be changed. Is there a filter system that will let me extend the fluid life to say 50 years? Wearing out in 28 is just wrong! :D

I may need to thin the blinker fluid w/some kerosene. Cold weather makes it thicken up a bit.

The muffler bearings were checked and still good!

Did you check your "flasher flushings"?
I bet they are failing fast and need
to be fushplaced right away.

Before you spend any money, I'd clean the contacts on the flasher switch. If you need a new one, I have some I can test for you.
