Mine has faded some with the paint.
I think the planned repaint will improve the passion score.

I'm madly ....
Heads over heels about these "classic" MB diesels....
I joined this forum in January, 2007 and bought my first one in March 2007; delivered on March 25, 2007. 4 days later, I bought the 2nd one...... One look at my signature sums it up.

My personal angle on this is... I bought my first one in 1993, for about a year, had a love/hate thing going. Then, I started learning about how it ticks, a while after that I found this place and the people who speak here. The learning continued and before I knew it, I had four more of the confounded things. In all honesty, I still love my Benzes, (even the gas one) and still enjoy working on them. I even find myself looking around at the occasional deal that I find, and think to myself....hmmm, I could do that! As far as I am concerned, other cars just don't measure up, and are in no way as economical when all is factored in. Bob

There are 3 things that drive us. First are the cars (obviously), second is the love/hate relationship with the cars, and third is the collective interest we all have with regards to restoring and fixing up these cars we've come to love.

I still enjoy mine a lot, especially now that I am much more comfortable with repairs and am more familiar with how she ticks. I've put 10k miles on mine and am happy with the fuel consumption, averaging 33.5 mpg so far. Repairs haven't been bad since I do them myself so far.
Driving my W124 makes my long daily commute much more interesting. That in itself is worth a lot to me.

I currently own two, am picking up a third for my son tomorrow and going to look at two more (a package deal) on Sunday. I'd say I'm hooked. But, if you look at my sig. I also own.... a..... Prius. I bought it in '03 before gas went totally crazy because I'm cheap. Being environmentally friendly was merely a side benefit. I liked the idea of 50mpg! Plus my wife wanted a smaller car to drive.

Do any of you know where there is an online CO2 emission calculator that will work with our MB's? Thanks.

8 yrs ago my dad was a diesel freak, he used to buy every diesel benz on the newspaper ad no matter if its running or not, he knew how to fix em up, so far we had 16 diesel benz come and go., Now we are down to 3 diesel benz, it seem that my dad lost his motivation to buy and save the abused diesel Benz he even slowed down on restoring on his 300SDL, i guess our passion fades as we age.

I was wondering, when I first got it, if I would fall in love with my Dodge/Cummens truck as I did with 240Ds . IMO it doesn't hold a candle to the MBs although its a very nice truck I'm still totally smitten with the MBs more than any other vehicle I've owned, which has been a bunch.

For many of us, the joy is having a car that can be repaired, as opposed to an appliance that is thrown away when it breaks. Obviously, repairing things as they break and going back to fix the things left over from previous owners takes time and money. If you run out of either, the passion may fade.
In my case, I bought my first diesel Benz in 2006 so I could use biodiesel. It was only later that I discovered that the car was made so that it could be repaired. This sealed the deal for me since I can do most of my own work, thus keeping down the price of ownership. And I love driving down the road behind that star! Jeremy

I never imagined I would like this car as much but as everyone said , build quality and ease of maintenence / repair keeps the passion alive . My 3/4 ton chevy also makes this love affair easier after I put fuel in it 35 gal tank 10 -12 mpg ouch !
Cold weather is another trying time but with the forum you learn tips and tricks. A Old car that feels safe has disc brakes , 3 point seat belts , dosent blow around in the wind, and comfortable whats not to love . This is making me want to drive it now even though its cold and it wont start! (havent mastered the tips and tricks yet )

I'm still very impressed with how effortlessly my 2.5L cruises at 70-75 mpg.
