VERY SOUND REASONING!!!

I like it!!!!

A little vinegar, followed with a "honey" chaser...

Good luck w/the 22yo DannyM...he might be a bit too rambunctious if he's still at home and not paying attention to Dad's wishes when Dad's not around...I'm not sure you'll have the pull you could have if he was a few years younger, but I may be wrong if he already knows he's getting a "deal" by living at home vs. being on his own.

BTW...how are your insurance rates??? You have HOW MANY at home?

GOD! My insurance would have caused me to bike to work with what they wanted to charge me extra when MY kid was at home and if HE'D been licensed...for that reason alone, he didn't get a license. Mom and I made sure he got to where he needed getting to...it was a WHOLE LOT CHEAPER than what it would have cost for insurance. Our deal with him was that IF he wanted a license, he needed a JOB, INSURANCE and his own car (ours where definately OFF LIMITS) and any "break" in the insurance cashflow was reason enough to cancel the license...then we found out that Wisconsin wouldn't cancel a license on a Parents' wish...even if the kid didn't have insurance...so the whole plan got nixed right there.

You're screwed if the kid is living in your house, licensed by the state, and has "access" to any of your vehicles...whether you give permission to drive 'em or not. Your insurance rates go UPł!!!

Just saying...

The 240 is my 16 year old's first car. Our rates nearly doubledwhen he started driving, but he's got a 36 mile round trip to school with no bus service and his mother and I were frankly tired of schlepping him there. Fortunately, he earns good money and I'm making him pay the difference in insurance. I figure if he has as much buy-in as possible on the costs of transportation he might be just a tad more careful.
I remember well on my 18th birthday, my mother signed the title of "my" car over to me free and clear. "Cool, thanks mom why are you doing this"? She said "because I am finished with my responsibility for that car, it's maintenance, insurance and your driving record. My rates will go down when you are buying your own insurance on your own car, and you WILL insure it. From this moment on, your are legally an adult. Act like one."
One of the best gifts she ever gave me.

Eh I am blessed my parents pay for my insurance. Car maintenance and fuel are the biggest killers for me.

Insurance companies are the bain of human existance. Can't live with them and can't live without them.

Not really. Imagine if you plowed into the back of a Bugatti Veyron and insurance was non-existent?

I think he covered that with the "can't live without them" part.

Do you guys have comprehensive/collision coverage on your old MBs? I never found it to be worthwhile and it sure drops the insurance rates. On the other hand I don't have to insure any teenagers either .

Definitely NOT.

Liability and uninsured motorist is all for me.

I love the car.

I really, really love the car.

However, I won't buy comprehensive insurance for a 17 year old car with 235K miles on it.

I'm an insurance adjuster, so I am a bit biased, but I understand the general dislike of insurance companies.

That being said, I normally carry comp on my older cars. For me it, the few extra dollars are worth it, but then again, up here, hitting deer seems to be an annual occurrence.

I do, but if I bothered to check the numbers I might figure out that I'm really "self insured" for anything beyond a fender bender anyway. The coverage cheap enough that I've never really thought about it.

Two thoughts come to mind here.

A: PARKED, a Veyron is going faster than a 300SD and:

B: No problem. Just push the Bugatti into a lake!

Well, okay, three thoughts

C: What insurance company do YOU have which would cover the repair costs on the Veyron?

I see this conversation taking place.

Ring. Ring. Ring. "Hello this is the "Grabbum, Bye, Scrotum Insurance claims line, how may I help you?"

"Ummm, yeah, I'm calling about a minor incident which occurred. It seems as though I tapped a somewhat expensive imported car. Minor damage really, shouldn't be much to take care of."

"I see sir, well, after looking up your records I see you have been a very careful driver and a long time customer. I think we will be able to handle your claim without any delay and a minimal increase in your premiums."

"Ummm, yeah, okay. The other car was a Bugatti Veyron and the damage was.."

"EXCUSE ME. The car was a WHAT?"

"A Veyron, really the damage is not very bad and shouldn't be too hard to ..."

"Please hold"

Knocking at the door, turning into pounding.

Opens door, "Hello?"

"Priority delivery from Grabbum, Bye, Scrotum".

Turns out to be a pre-dated termination of your policy with the ink not even dry on the signature.

DannyM,

Parts is parts.
Glad he's ok.
Now maybe he will fully understand the meaning of "keep it 'tween the ditches and rubber side down."

When you see what damage is done and what parts you will need get in touch, I have an '85 SD that has some good body parts.

Make your son walk or be driven until this car is fixed.

I'm an agent & also biased. Old car value less deductible doesn't leave much risk for the carrier. I'd rather drive carefully & keep my premium or spend it for more liability coverage.
